More Trees

This is the commissioned tree, and as a result I didn't take as much risk as I would have otherwise...so, there'll be more to come.  Any suggestions on where to take it?

Small moment.  It had a profound effect when matted.  I think I want to do a small series like this in the future.

  1. The first image is like a membrane! Part tree and part nervous system!

I like the size of the second (!) but beware of tree cliche/symbolism.

Maybe you need to break out of the rectangle and play with oval and circular formats, like in the second image but literally chopping the page off.
There is so much potential for layering in your work-And layering in the installation. Long sheer sheets of mylar suspended from the ceiling... Try giving the center a break, all of you trees thus far has dominated the page, remember the importance of Air.

Commission is very exciting and limiting. do you still want to be making trees? It seems like these trees are doubling as trees with the secret ambition to become something greater(nervous system)

what are you thinking about in terms of light? Maybe it's just the photo, but there is this abduction/blinding light in the first image.

AND, Happy Birthday to You, my birthday twin!

  2. Happy birthday to you too, my twin!!! 23, woohoo!

I like your suggestions for breaking out of the rectangular 2d restraints. I think I'm ready to start experimenting with that again.

I do want to create more trees, but I've been commissioned by him again, and this time no trees. He also wants color!? So any future tree exploration will be self directed, and I have a lot experimenting to do before a color piece will work out. I am interested in the nervous system imagery, and that might be a useful direction. Also, yes, I want the trees to glow, and maybe that glowing was a little too blinding in the first one.
